I kept missing her everywhere I looked. She was supposed to meet me at the Museo del Prado. But knowing how I can get involved looking around and lose my sense of time, she came looking for me.
The thing is it wasn’t that at all. I got hung up in traffic. A traffic jam pushed my time back half an hour and I knew I was late, but I had no idea she would come looking for me.
When I finally arrived, I looked around the Museo del Prado and had the feeling she wasn’t there. She was the kind who couldn’t stand still. But, where could she be?
An observant affiliate at the museum informed me that a lady matching my description had been there, that she left a few minutes before I arrived and she headed west. I considered all points west and could only come up with one that made sense, the Plaza Mayor.
Ah Madrid, it can be quite beautiful. I took Calle De Las Huertas to Plaza Del Angel and veered left somewhere ending up on Calle De Atocha. I thought I saw her several times as I walked the Spanish streets. But, she remained a step ahead of me like chasing a rainbow.
And then, standing in the yard as I approached the Plaza Mayor was her silhouette. This time I knew. It was that feeling you get when you just know. She scanned the yard and finally turned to notice me. With her delicate smile and her patient walk, she approached me gently raising her arms to give me a hug.
Wow, I had been lost in a great memory for who knows how long. I suddenly awoke from my daydream when my name was called out in the doctor’s office. What thought had sent my mind back years remembering my trip to Madrid? Madrid…oh yeah, Madrid.
